There are two Tamil Bhavans in Delhi, the old and new. On Saturday, after state chief minister was convicted by a special court in Bangalore, nothing much sitirred at either of these Tamil bastions in the capital, except a posse of Delhi policemen took up stations at their entrances. Leaning on their lathis, tucked under their chins, they lolled for want of doing something.
The old Tamil Nadu Bhavan is on Kautilya Marg, not far from & RCR and Gujarat Bhavan. The new is on Veer Tikender Singh Marg in Chanakyapuri, which is home to diplomatic missions of various countries including the US and China, wore a deserted look except for the cops.
The heartbreak and violence, the sense triumph and defeat, witnessed in Tamil Nadu was nowhere to be seen in Delhi. Most senior officials and members of parliament irrespective of parties, were in Tamil Nadu. Delhi is too far away, for Tamil and Tamilians to be heard.
