Akshaya Tritiya 2018: Here's why devotees will throng Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan

Akshay Tritiya is one of the most auspicious days and festival of Hindu religion. On this day, devotees worship Goddess Laxmi. It is considered to be one of the best times to do dealings, investing in gold and other precious metals.

But in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, this day is celebrated by performing special puja and observing rituals at the Banke Bihari temple. Because this is that one day in the year when devotees can actually see the feet of Banke Bihari. On the other 364 days of the year, the holy idol is covered in flowers brought by the devotees. On Akshay Tritiya, disciples from all corners of the country travel to Vrindavan to worship Lord Krishna's avatar. It is assumed that on this day, worshipping the feet of Lord Banke Bihari will bring good luck to all.

The puja rituals begin with applying special Malayagiri Chandan paste to the feet of the idol. Prasad on this day includes laddoos made of sattu, juice, cucumber, and aamras. 

According to a report in Zee News, local authorities of Vrindavan have taken necessary measures with regards to the visiting devotees. Police have employed special forces to take care of traffic jams. Visitors should note that given the huge number of footfall, outside vehicles are not allowed in the city. So you may have to make other arrangements to get to the temple.
