After Ahmedabad rural police who have already asked farmhouse owners to tell them about their New Year party plans in advance, the Ahmedabad city police disclosed on Monday how they intend to prevent drunken revelry during the celebrations.

More than 450 traffic police would be on their toes to ensure smooth and 'dry' parties in the city. Armed with breathalysers and orders from senior officers not to ignore drunk drivers at any cost, the police will be out on the roads watching for people in 'high' spirits.

SG highway, CG road and Dharnisar Derasar in Paldi area will receive the most attention from the watchful police because most of the popular party venues happen to be located in theses parts. Revellers are expected to throng these locations at midnight on New Year Eve on Friday.

"There will be one DCP, one ACP, seven inspectors and 34 sub-inspectors along with more than 450 constables on the city's roads on Friday night. We want to make sure that no untoward incident takes place during the celebrations," said MM Anarwala, DCP, traffic.

Apart from traffic bandobast, the police stations concerned have also been asked to increase patrolling in areas falling under their jurisdiction and stop drinking at late night parties. Senior police officials said they would be granting permission to party (of course, without liquor) till 12:30 am on New Year's Eve (Friday).
