According to Shahibaug police officials, the students gathered at PWD office located on the Civil Hospital compound. They were angry over water logging and other civic problems in the locality. Sources said that at around 2:30 pm, the students held a meeting and decided to storm the PWD office.

"They completely vandalized the office. They also targeted the-sub office of the department. We came to know that the students were angry because of the poor condition of road leading to their hostels and electricity problems among others," police officials said.

On the other hand, eyewitnesses claimed there was a police vehicle near the spot but cops did not dare to stop the angry students from taking law in their hands. Later on, police said that an FIR was lodged after the assistant engineer Urmil Vaidya approached them.

Students claimed that they have been demanding improvement in the condition of roads, electricity and other problems they are facing for a long time but PWD officials didn't heed their pleas ever.
