A complaint of medical negligence resulting in the death of a patient was filed against a doctor on Thursday. The patient who needed multiple surgeries following an accident was operated at Shalby Hospital on March 15, 2011 by one Dr Pranav Shah.

The patient died a day after the operation. Suman Pandya (68), a retired principal of a primary school was admitted to the Shalby Hospital.Pandya had met with an accident in Godhra 12 days ago. He was treated at a local hospital there and was later asked to move to a hospital in Ahmedabad.

He was operated on March 14, 2011 by Dr Shah at Shalby and died the next day. Chetang Pandya, the son of the deceased then filed a complaint with Satellite police on Thursday, after he came to know that his father was operated despite the fact that he was suffering from vomiting.

The Satellite police have booked a case against Dr Shah.  In his complaint filed on Wednesday, Chetang stated that Dr Shah of Shalby Hospital was negligent while operating his father.  "He vomited during the operation and breathed his last soon after the operation was over," the complaint states.

"My father had gone to Godhra and had met with an accident 12 days ago. He was treated at a local hospital for a few days and then moved to Sola Civil Hospital from where he was referred to Shalby on Tuesday," Chetang said.

"He was operated by Dr Shah on Wednesday. However, due to his carelessness, my father died after the operation," the complainant further said.

But vice-president Shalby Hospital Niraj Lal said, "The patient was shifted to our hospital in a critical stage after being in a very serious accident. He was brought to Shalby from Sola Civil Hospital and because it was a trauma case he was operated by the trauma surgeon. There was no negligence on the surgeon's part." Satellite police are further investigating the matter.
