According to the police, Chauhan, a resident of Raikhad, used to keep the keys of the office with him. To make some extra bucks, he started using the office as a gambling den, for which he used to get Rs 2,000 every Sunday from the gamblers who used the space. Since the lawyer didn't come to office on Sundays, the peon started using the space without the lawyer's knowledge.

According to Chauhan, he gets only Rs 3,000 as salary, so wanted extra money to run his house. He also admitted that his elder brother is in jail. Thus, he has to take care of his brother's family as well.
