Ahmedabad dummy writers' case: School trustee, doctor arrested

In a major development in the dummy writers’ case, the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of the Ahmedabad police on Friday arrested HB Kapadia School, Memnagar, trustee Muktak Kapadia and Civil Hospital’s Dr Yatin Sanandiya.

While Kapadia had provided two dummy writers without following the proper procedure, Dr Sanandiya had provided the fake fracture certificate to Harsh Kotak.

The police produced them in the metropolitan court which sent them to judicial custody as the DCB did not seek their remand.
Their bail application will be heard on Monday. 

Deputy commissioner of police of DCB Himanshu Shukla told DNA that it was found during investigation that Kapadia had played an important role in providing the dummy writers as well as executing the entire scam. Shukla confirmed that both of them were arrested by DCB on Friday morning.

According to DCB sources, it was found that Kapadia had actually provided the dummy writers to Harsh Kotak and Komal Patel who appeared in the HSC board exams in March 2008.     

They said Kapadia provided two students from his school to Harsh and Komal after two genuine writers provided from Swastik Shishu Vihar School refused to write the papers after the first day.

The two Swastik students, who had been brought in through proper procedure, refused to come on the second day after they were asked to cheat on the first day.  The very next day, Kapadia sent two students from his school without obtaining the mandatory permission from the education department.  The two students given by Kapadia were caught by a squad of the education department, which later led to the scam being exposed.

Sources said it was a sort of syndicate with many people connected to it.  Dr Sanandiya, who was then posted at Ahmedabad Civil hospital, had allegedly issued the fake medical certificate to Harsh. He is now posted at Surat Civil Hospital.
With the arrest of Kapadia and Dr Sanandiya, the total number of arrests by the DCB in the case has gone up to five. The DCB had earlier arrested Bhagwant Singh, Sanjay Patel and Dr Bhadresh Shah.
