Ahmedabad DCB probe police action on journalist

The Director General of Police (DGP) has handed over investigation of a case to detection of crime branch (DCB), in which police have allegedly used force on innocent people, including a local journalist Mayur Joshi and his friend, Jay Patel.

The incident happened at 11pm on Wednesday, when a party of Naroda police arrived at Naroda’s Canal area, which has several food joints. Police began shouting at people who were eating at these joints, when two constables — Parimal Damor and Dilip Bechardas — jumped out of their vehicle and started beating up the people with their batons. As a result, the diners had to flee the spot.       

In the process, the cops not only apprehended the journalist and his friend, but also did not flinch from hurling expletives at them at the police station. Both were released after 2-3 hours, having warned them of dire consequences.  

The cops also threatened the duo that they would kill them and beat them. According to the friend, the cops were drunk and did not give them an opportunity to explain. Few people even had to go in for medical treatment after being soundly thrashed by the constables.
