Ahmedabad cops gear up for reaction to Supreme Court ruling on Ayodhya

In his first meeting with his subordinates, newly appointed city commissioner of police, Amitabh Pathak told his officers to pay special attention and gear up for any eventuality that could arise after the Supreme Court gives its judgment on the Ram Temple (Ayodhya) issue. Pathak was addressing a meeting at the police  headquarters on Wednesday.

The judgment is expected to be delivered on September 24, and police feel that it could lead to some tension in the city.

A source in the police department, on condition of anonymity, said that so far police stations have been asked to remain extra vigilant and ensure that there is no spread of communal tension.

"Police stations in communally sensitive areas have been told to remain on their toes on the day of the judgment and even after it," a source said. A special team of SRPs will also be deployed in some communally sensitive areas, if the police stations demand for it.

"We are in the process of deciding if there is any requirement of extra force. But the local police will have to remain very vigilant," a senior cop said.

Apart from this, the newly appointed commissioner also asked his subordinates to take care of the traffic chaos in the city. In fact, the deputy commissioner of police, traffic department has started a special drive near the ISKCON Temple from Wednesday evening.

"We will try to control the traffic chaos on SG Road," a cop said.
While praising the cops for their efforts in fighting crime, Pathak also raised concerns about the rising incidents of chain snatching in the city. He instructed the city police to pay special attention on the day of Ganpati Visarjan to be held on September 22 and during the election scheduled for October 10.
