After Rs 23,000 fine in Gurugram, auto-rickshaw driver in Odisha fined Rs 47,500

After the implementation of the amended Motor Vehicles Act,  an auto-rickshaw driver in Odisha was penalised a hefty sum of Rs 47,500 for violating various traffic rules.

The Traffic police near Acharya Vihar today levied the penalty on the auto-rickshaw driver and issued him a challan for drunk driving and not carrying documents including his driving licence, vehicle insurance, the pollution certificate apart from using the vehicle without a permit.

The owner of the auto-rickshaw, Kanduri Khatua of Kishore Prasad area in Nayagarh, who was present in the vehicle driven by  Hari Bandhu Kanhar, was unable to produce all the necessary documents when asked by police.

The challan copy shows, the owner was fined Rs 5,000 for allowing unauthorised person to drive vehicle, Rs 5000 for driving vehicle without a valid driving licence, Rs 10000 for drunk driving, Rs 10000 for violating air and noise pollution, Rs 5000 for using vehicle without registration and FC, Rs 10000 for violating permit conditions, Rs 2000 for plying without insurance and Rs 500 as general offence.

The total challan amounted to Rs 47,500 which the driver has been asked to deposit at the driving testing centre in Chandrashekharpur.

After getting a hefty challan, the auto-rickshaw driver, Hari Knahar said, " I have all the necessary documents and I can show them to the traffic officers but I can't pay the fine.

He further stated that he bought the auto from its owner, Hari Knahar for Rs 26000.
