Hanaya Nissar, who won gold medal in a Karate Championship in Korea, has got an appreciation by none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. Coming from a humble background, she featured in Prime Minister's 51st 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday.
"Let me tell you about one of our daughters from Kashmir who won a gold medal in a Karate Championship in Korea. Hanaya is 12-years old and lives in Anantnag, Kashmir. Hanaya trained hard in Karate with perseverance and fervour, studied its nuances and proved herself. On behalf of all countrymen, I wish her a bright future. Best wishes and blessings to Hanaya," Modi said.
The PM's appreciation has left the Class 8 student and her parents spell-bound. Phones have not stopped ringing at Hanaya's home since 'Mann Ki Baat' was broadcasted on Radio this morning.
"I am feeling on top of the world. I did not expect that the Prime Minister will talk about me. I have a wish to meet the Prime Minister. I am a small kid and want to meet the PM. It is an earnest request," Hanaya told DNA.
From friends to relatives, Hanaya has been flooded with congratulatory messages for achieving this feat. "People have been calling me since morning to wish me for this feat. My friends and relatives have been congratulating me ever since my name featured in 'Mann ki Baat'. Our happiness knew no bounds," she said
Daughter of a driver in J&K Government Forest Department, Hanaya started training when she was in Class IV in her school at Srinagar. For four years she trained hard and in October she went to Korea to attend the World Championship where she won gold medal.
"I came to Srinagar from Kokarnag when I was in Class III. My coach came to our school and told us about the game. From class IV I started training in the game. After four years I attended the world championship in Korea where I won gold medal", she said.
After passing class VII at Srinagar, Hanaya has returned to her village in south Kashmir's Kokernag where she has joined class VIII at Sheikh-ul-Alam Memorial Institute.
