After Nivar, another cyclone forming over Bay of Bengal? Here is what IMD has to say

The premier weather agency stated that the low depression will intensify in the coming days.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Chennai on Friday stated that a low depression is forming over the Bay of Bengal which is likely to intensify further by Sunday. The development comes after Cyclone Nivar ravaged Tamil Nadu and other Southern states. 

The premier weather agency stated that the low depression will intensify in the coming days. IMD further did not rule out the likelihood of it turning into a cyclone.

Earlier, Cyclone Nivar, the very severe cyclonic storm, crossed the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coast near Puducherry on November 25 night and November 26 with an estimated wind speed of 120-130 kmph and weakened into a severe cyclonic storm, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.

The cyclone began its landfall on Wednesday night at about 10.30 p.m. after moving at a speed of 16 kmph for six hours. According to the weather department, Nivar crossed the coasts between 11.30 pm on November 25 and 2.30 am on November 26.

According to officials, over one lakh people have been evacuated across Tamil Nadu and more than 1,000 people shifted to safer places in Puducherry.

The Indian Navy on Wednesday put ships, aircraft, helicopters, diving, and disaster relief teams on standby. An Indian Coast Guard vessel has also been deployed off Chennai coast with disaster relief items.

The streets of Chennai were inundated with rainwater, and trees were uprooted, as Cyclone Nivar brought along heavy rains.The railway tracks at the Puducherry station were all submerged underwater due to the incessant rains brought by Cyclone Nivar.
