Pakistan on Tuesday said it would approach the International Court of Justice against India's decision to revoke special status of Jammu and Kashmir by abrogating Article 370 of the Constitution.

This comes after Pakistan's plan to raise the matter at the United Nations failed as members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) decided at informal consultations that the issue was a bilateral one between New Delhi and Islamabad.

“We have decided to take Kashmir case to the International Court of Justice,” Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi told Pakistan's ARY News TV.

Qureshi said the decision was taken after "considering all legal aspects.”

The last time India and Pakistan faced each other at the world court was in the matter of Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav who was arrested by Pakistan and was sentenced to death by the Pakistani military court on charges of "espionage and terrorism" after a closed trial in April 2017. India won the case as the ICJ asked Pakistan to grant consular or diplomatic access to Kulbhushan Jadhav in accordance with the Vienna Convention.

An aide to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan also confirmed the same saying that an in-principle approval had been granted by the cabinet to take the issue to the world court, Dawn.com reported.

Earlier on Friday, the China-Pakistan initiative to rake up Kashmir at United Nations found no support at the UNSCC meet. The consultative meet happened at the request of China who took up the letter of Pakistani foreign minister sent earlier this month in the aftermath of New Delhi's decision to remove the special status for Jammu and Kashmir.
