Last seen in the BSP era, the 'statue culture' seems to have resurfaced in the BJP with the party deciding to install miniature fibre statues of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at party offices across Uttar Pradesh.

The idea was mooted by a senior BJP leader when a miniature firbe-made statue of Prime Minister was presented to Yogi Adityanath on his birthday on Tuesday by the party General Secretary (Organization) Sunil Bansal.

A similar miniature statue of Yogi Adityanath was later presented to the Chief Minister by one ABVP leader Abhishek Kaushik. While Adityanath usually does not accept gifts, he accepted this one as an exception to respect sentiments of the party leaders.

Emboldened, a senior party leader then ordered for more miniature statues to be installed in all party offices in the state. The 16-inch statue was made by party workers and artists in Chitrakoot.

"We have decided to install statues of Modiji and Yogiji in all party state headquarters and district offices. They are small in size and can be placed anywhere on a shelf or a table in a corner," said the senior BJP leader.

On the directions of the party National President Amit Shah, the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP has so far built its own offices in 62 out of 75 districts in the state.

Despite setbacks in recent by-polls, the BJP leader claimed, popularity of both the leaders continue to show upward swing. "People are crazy about them. They easily associate themselves with such memorabilia," claimed the party leader.

Ironically, it was the same BJP that mocked BSP's statue culture.
