It would be interesting to see how long the Sadbhavna Mission of chief minister Narendra Modi lasts. On the very next day the CM's fast ended, Tuesday, the mood at the state secretariat was satirical!
The body language of many officials and bureaucrats working closely with ministers seemed changed. At the same time, Modi and his cabinet were back to work and busy making future plans.
Many of the officials welcomed their friends not with the customary 'good morning' or the BJP's Indian salutation, 'namaskar'. Instead, they were greeted with 'adab arz hai ' and 'assalamulaikum' followed by a bought of laughter. A few top officers seemed to be dissecting the Sadbhavna fast episode.
One of the officials said, "The first day of the fast started as expected but on the second day, the episode of skullcap spoiled the scene. The national media kept showing that clipping maximum number of times." A maulana had offered the cap to fasting Modi but the latter had refused to put it on.
Another official said, "I believe that the CM's move to woo minorities may not keep the Hindu majority happy. I had heard many BJP workers at the GU Convention Hall showing their dissatisfaction over the participation of Muslims."
However, not all the bureaucrats and officials feel the CM's move might not help him as expected. One of the senior most bureaucrats said, "I have seen many chief ministers and worked with many politicians. Most are interested only in encashing on the emotions of voters from various communities.
Even if they were good politicians, they couldn't be good administrators and couldn't get work done by their officers. But this CM is doing something different. I think psychologically, people show hesitation in accepting new ideas."
