Professor of English, Saibaba was arrested by police in Maharashtra on May 9. A protester, Karan, threatened to intensify their agitation if their demands were not fulfilled. "Student organisations are protesting and we will not tolerate all these things in the campus. We demand the authorities to suspend G.N Saibaba," he said.

According to reports, the English professor, who hails from East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, was running an organisation acting as a front for Maoists. Police claim the professor was questioned previously at least four times in the last six months before his arrest.
