He was attacked by 29-year-old Utsav Sharma, who had earlier stabbed former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore, a convict in the Ruchika molestation case.

“He has sustained severe injuries on his head and hands after the attack. At present, he is undergoing treatment in Apollo hospital in Delhi,’’ Rebecca John, one of the Talwars’ advocates, told DNA.Following the attack, the case has been adjourned till February 8. Senior superintendent of police, Ghaziabad, Raghubir Lal said Talwar was recuperating and out of danger.

During his interrogation, police quoted Utsav saying he was following the Aarushi case for long and was upset with its slow progress. However, police maintain that he resorted to the attack to attract media attention. On Monday last, he had bought a cleaver from Chandni Chowk in Delhi for Rs250.

Armed, he came to the court, waited at a tea stall and when 54-year-old Talwar came near, Utsav, attacked him.
