Aarushi murder case: SC grants Nupur Talwar bail

The Supreme Court on Monday granted bail to Nupur Talwar, mother of slain 14-year-old Aarushi.

Nupur and her husband Dr Rajesh Talwar are facing trial for allegedly killing their daughter and a domestic help Hemraj in May 2008 in one of the most sensational and mysterious diabolic crimes that don’t suggest a cogent motive despite the accused having been put to various drug-induced investigation tools.

Currently lodged in Ghaziabad’s Dasna jail, infamous for questionable suicides by some inmates who were accused in cases involving politically and socially influential persons, dentist Nupur would have to file an application before the trial court that must accord her bail on September 25.

By then the CBI, which is prosecuting the doctor couple, could complete recording of the evidence of the crucial witnesses.
Nupur has been lodged in the jail since April 30 last. Earlier she had frequented the Allahabad high court and the top court challenging the various orders passed by the trial courts for her arrest.

Her plea for quashing the case was already rejected by the top court. Nupur then surrendered and was jailed.

Though the trial is going on and certain important witnesses had turned hostile, Nupur is believed to be penning her tryst with trial.

Meanwhile, the SC last week also passed an important judgment relating to the trial by media. Though no direct relief could be given to persons who fear a parallel trial by the media, the court however ruled that such a person may approach the HC or the SC for a short-term injunction against the media but a constitutional court would pass any order after hearing the arguments by a particular TV or print media.
