Delhi Police has arrested Aam Aadmi Party MLA Manoj Kumar's Personal Assistant Deepak Sharma on charges of extortion on Tuesday evening at 8 pm.

Sharma was allegedly threatening and extorting money every month from the shopkeepers in east Delhi's Mayur Vihar Phase -III.

On July 9, MLA from Kondli, Manoj Kumar had been arrested by the Delhi Police on the charges of cheating and forging documents but was later released on bail after a four-day remand.

According to Delhi Police a total of 17 complaints have been lodged against Sharma by ration shop owners and workers in Gharoli area. Complainants allege that Deepak was extorting Rs. 2000 from every shop per month. 

He has been booked under IPC sections 384 (extortion) and 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion) by the Ghazipur police station of East Delhi.
