The All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU) on Saturday welcomed the release of jailed ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa on bail as a positive development in the state and a confidence building measure for the proposed peace talks."We term this development as a positive sign towards the proposed peace process. Assam awaits a new beginning in 2011 filled with joy, peace and prosperity", AAGSU information and publicity secretary Nanda Kirati Dewan said in a press release in Guwahati."In the sideline of this affirmative sign of peace, we appeal to the Assam government and union home ministry to negotiate with the ULFA in a very conducive atmosphere and amicably find an acceptable solution", the release said."We also appeal to the ULFA to sit and initiate the peace process with the union and the state governments in favour of the peace loving population of Assam", it said.The AAGSU was committed to the proposed peace process with the Gorkha population of Assam actively participating in all democratic strategy making process, the union added.
