'A visit to Delhi without Pranabda is unimaginable,' tweets Mamata Banerjee

Pranab Mukherjee was admitted to Army Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi Cantt for emergency surgery of brain clot. Later he also tested positive for COVID-19. He was admitted on August 10 after testing positive for COVID-19.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condoled the demise of former President Pranab Mukherjee. One of the most respected politicians of the country, Mukherjee was battling illness for a long time. He was 84 and admitted to the Army Hospital in Delhi Cantonment.

Taking to Twitter, Mamata wrote, “It is with deep sorrow I write this. Bharat Ratna Pranab Mukherjee has left us. An era has ended. For decades he was a father figure. From my first win as MP, to being my senior Cabinet colleague, to his becoming President while I was CM… So many memories.A visit to Delhi without Pranabda is unimaginable. He is a legend in all subjects from politics to economics. Will be forever grateful. Shall miss him immensely. My condolences to Abhijit & Sharmistha.”

The former president's health deteriorated on Sunday night, following which he was in "septic shock". "There is a decline in the medical condition of Hon’ble Shri Pranab Mukherjee since yesterday," said Army Hospital, where the Congress stalwart was admitted, in Delhi Cantonment.

The former president’s son Abhijeet informed about his demise. "With a Heavy Heart , this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away inspite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital & prayers ,duas & prarthanas from people throughout India ! (sic)," Mukherjee's son tweeted.
