Here's why Congress got trolled for paying tribute to Kishore Kumar on Twitter

Social media is tough and unforgiving, and Congress – a late entrant is finding that out the hard way.

On Friday, the Indian National’s Congress handle tweeted out a tribute to evergreen Bollywood singer, the late Kishore Kumar on his death anniversary. They wrote on Twitter: “We pay tribute to Kishore Da, the voice of almost every Bollywood hero for over two decades, on his death anniversary.”

However, Twitterati, who seldom forget, were quick to point out Congress’ tumultuous relationship with the Bollywood singer.

In fact, Kumar had been banned during Indira Gandhi’s Emergency by Indira Gandhi’s I&B Minister VC Shukla. Close to Indira Gandhi’s son Sanjay, Shukla had banned Kishore Kumar’s songs from All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan from May 4, 1976 till the end of the Emergency for refusing to perform at a Congress rally in Mumbai.

So,when INC’s Twitter handle tweeted out a tribute to the singer, Twitterati were quick to give the grand old party a history lesson.
