9K newly purchased vehicles running without HSRP

The Regional Transport Office (RTO) Indore will recover around Rs 50 each from close to 9,000 newly purchased vehicles running on city roads without getting HSRP installed on them.

Since commencement of HSRP installation in March, 2012 installation of HSRP is must for the registration of the vehicle.

Normally unregistered vehicles are allowed to run for a week only. Tally of such vehicles has crossed 9,000 mark in the city and most of these vehicles are two wheelers.

Now the RTO Indore has decided to recover Rs 50 from such vehicle owners before issuing registration number.

The limited installation capacity of Utsav Link Company, which only installs 250 HSRPs per day, is also making things tough for owners of newly purchased owners.

According to RTO Indore Sanjay Soni, the office registers around 400 vehicles per day.  Amid inordinate delays in HSRP installation at Vijaynagar RTO branch, the office is witnessing growing crowd of vehicle owners so much so that Vijaynagar police station is forced to deploy police personnel at the HSRP installation facility. TI Vijaynagar police station Shailendra Srivastava told dna that we deploy police force to avoid any untoward incident whenever large crowd is witnessed at Vijaynaagr branch’s HSRP installation facility.

He added that such instances are witnessed quite frequently these days. ASP (traffic) Anjana Tiwari also claimed that following introduction of HSRP, the number of unregistered vehicles running on city roads have increased. A drive would be launched soon to penalise such vehicle owners soon, she added. The unregistered vehicles include around 6,000 two-wheelers and 1500 four wheelers.
