Nine more persons have died of encephalitis in the district, taking the death toll due to the disease in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh to 328, health officials said.
All the nine patients succumbed to the disease at Baba Raghav Das Medical College Hospital here in the last two days, additional director (health) UK Srivastava said.
Of the nine victims, three were from Deoria, two from Gorakhpur and one each from Siddharthanagar, Kushinagar, Mahrajganj and Sant Kabirnagar, he said.
Srivastava said that of the total 328 deaths so far, 308 were reported in BRD MCH while the remaining in other government hospitals in Gorakhpur, Siddharthnagar, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Sant Kabirnagar, Basti and Deoria districts.
He also said that 25 new patients have been admitted to BRD Medical College Hospital.
As many as 277 patients are presently undergoing treatment for the disease at various government hospitals of the region of which 232 are being treated in BRD-MCH.
