At least nine persons were killed and six seriously injured in separate road accidents in Odisha today, police said.

While five persons died in Dhenkanal district, four others succumbed to injuries in another road accident in Balasore, they said.

Four people died and two of a family were seriously injured when their car hit a crane on NH5 near Simulia in Balasore during their way back home in Kuanrpur from Jajpur after negotiating a marriage proposal, they said.

Two died on the spot and two others died on their way to hospital, police said, adding, that those injured have been shifted to Cuttack Medical College from Bhadrakh hospital.

Two among the four deceased aged 10 and 17 years, while two others were 40 & 67 years, they said.

In Dhenkanal, five persons were killed and four seriously injured when the jeep they were travelling skidded off the road and hit a tree, police said.

The deceased were identified as Panchanan Behera (60), Pramod Behera (28), Sudhakar Sahu (55), Antarjami Behera (45), and Souri Behera (35) of Bijadiha, they said.
