At least 5 soldiers were martyred by terrorists on Monday (October 11) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri sector.

It is learned that Army had launched the operation in a village close to Dera Ki Gali in Surankote in the early hours after receiving credible inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. The terrorists opened fire on the search parties resulting in the martyrdom of a Junior Commissioned Officer or JCO and four other soldiers.

"Based on intelligence inputs, the Indian Army launched a cordon and search operation in villages close to DKG in Surankote jurisdiction of Poonch district of J&K today morning. The encounter with terrorists is going on," Jammu's Defence PRO said, quoted news agency ANI. 

The PRO added, "One JCO and four jawans of the Indian Army sustained critical injuries during the anti-terror operation... They were rushed to the nearest medical facility where they succumbed to injuries."
