In a tragic incident, five Bharwad youths died by drowning in the swirling waters of a check-dam located near Bagasara village in Amreli district. The deceased included 4 members of a family who could not escape the deep waters.

On Friday afternoon, five persons of the Bharwad community gathered near a check-dam at Putaliya Mahadev temple in Bagasara to bathe their livestock. 

While this was going on, one of the young men fell into the deep waters and started screaming for help. To save him, all four other youth jumped into the water. Since the water level was high all five drowned.

The deceased included  brothers Jasmat Rathod, 45, and Dana Rathod, 35, Natha Rathod, 15, son of Dana Rathod, also died in the incident along with Mayur Rathod, 17, and Haka Rupabhai, 20, in a bid to save the family members. Upon hearing about the accident, local fire brigade rushed to the scene and pulled out the bodies.
