At midnight on Friday, a Force Toofan jeep travelling towards Savar Kundla town collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite side on the Dhandhuka-Bagodara highway.

A Maruti Alto car driving right behind the jeep was also involved in the accident. Five people travelling in the jeep were grievously hurt in the incident and two were killed on the spot. Twelve others including passengers from the Maruti Alto were also hurt in the collision.

Incidentally, the passengers of the jeep were on their way to attend the besana of a deceased family member at Savar Kundla town in Amreli district. The accident took place outside Khadol village in Dhandhuka taluka.The severity of the impact was such that two of its passengers died on the spot.

All the five deceased in the incident were passengers in the jeep. Meanwhile, the Alto car also crashed into the jeep, and one of its passengers was severely injured. The tuck driver, however, escaped unharmed from the spot of the incident.

The deceased were identified as Ishwar Patel, Dilip Patel, Mahesh Bhatt, Rama Patel and Kishor Chavda. The driver of the Alto, Hitesh Mehta as well as passengers, Nirav Dikshit and Piyush Bhatt were also injured. The other nine injured were also passengers of the jeep. They were all admitted to various hospitals nearby, police sources said.

One of the injured passengers, Varsha Patel registered a complaint of rash driving against the truck driver with Dhandhuka police on Friday afternoon.
