450 more medical seats for Gujarat in 3 years

Jaynarayan Vyas, health and family welfare minister, Gujarat state announced that in next three years Gujarat will have 450 more seats increasing the quality of the education and professionals in the state. Vyas was addressing a meet at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Ramanbhai Gokal Privilege Centre at Karamsad, where chief minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the building.

"By 2025, India will need 6.5 lakh doctors and 12.5 lakh nurses to bridge the demand for skilled medical and para-medical professionals," Vyas said,  adding that in order to fulfill the requirement Gujarat will need to focus on quality education and training. Therefore, as the first step towards this end, Gujarat will increase 450 medical seats every year for the next 3 years, the minister said.

The foundation stone was laid in the morning on Sunday.  During the event, Modi said, "Clean drinking water supply (Narmada), fortified foods, pro-active steps to curb pollution and various initiatives like Chiranjeev Yojana, Bal Sakha Yojana and Khel Mahakumbh gave Gujarat the edge over other states in terms of public health and family welfare."

The new 'Ramanbhai Gokal Privilege Centre' is planned as an extension of the existing medical facilities at Shree Krishna Hospital. The income generated by the centre would be used to subsidize the cost of treatment of the patients in general wards at Shree Krishna Hospital. Dr Amrita Patel, Chairman- Charutar Arogya Mandal & Chairman - National Dairy Development Board was also present in the event.
