A massive fire broke out at a rubber godown in South Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on Tuesday. Latest reports suggest that the blaze is still on.

1: The fire that started in the evening in Khirki Extension area of Maliviya Nagar is still continuing. As many as 40 fire engines are at the spot. The huge blaze is of the ‘highest category’ that the National Capital has seen in recent times. 

2: ‘We have deployed 40 tenders of different types here, fire has been limited to the building and will not spread but since there is rubber it will take time to douse flames completely. There are no casualties,’ GC Mishra, Director, Delhi Fire Service was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

3: The skyline of South Delhi went completely dark. Thick plume of smoke could be seen as far as Greater Kailash. 

4: The smoke billowing from a burning truck and the godown caused panic among locals. Police had to evacuate the area to ensure safety of the people living near the godown.

5: The call of the fire was received around 5 PM and 35 fire tenders were rushed to the factory to bring the blaze under control, said a Delhi Fire Services officer.

6: The fire started from a truck parked near Sant Nirankari School in Malviya Nagar. The truck was loaded with rubber sheet from a godown, police said.

7: The fire from the burning truck spread to the godown, said DCP (south) Romil Baaniya.

8: Initially, around 25 fire tenders were pressed into service.

9: Local AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj alleged that there were many such illegal godowns and illegal factories were many disasters are waiting to happen.

10: He also said that the local AAP councillor had complained to SDMC officials, but no action was taken.
