Three fishermen from here were injured and as many boats damaged when Sri Lankan Navy personnel allegedly attacked them today when they were fishing near Katchatheevu and near International Maritime Boundary Line in the Palk Strait.

The Sri Lankan Navalmen also snapped the nets and took away the catch of the fishermen, who put out to sea last night, officials said quoting a fisherman, Kattu Raja.

Murugan, Justine and Ramamurthy suffered injuries when the Sri Lankan Navalmen allegedly hit them with their rifle.

According to assistant director of Fisheries Elamvazhuthi, the fishermen had borrowed money for diesel before putting out to sea, but had to return without fishing due to the "attack".

Meanwhile, the fishermen have sought immediate intervention of the Centre to put an end to such attacks.
