3 FIRs against irregularities in Delhi Jal Board

The anti-corruption branch of Delhi government on Monday registered three FIRs related to irregularities in the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), incurring a total loss of Rs 341 crore to the state exchequer.The FIRs have been registered in the work allotted to DJB's Bhagirathi water treatment plant in northeast Delhi. It has been found that work was allotted to a private firm at an inflated cost, resulting in aloss of Rs 158 crore to the government.The AAP government has also found irregularities in the purchase of four lakh water meters with a purported intent to favor one particular company, which resulted in a loss of around Rs 150 crore to thegovernment. A loss of another Rs 33 crore has been reported in providing benefit to a private company in the purchase of 3.5 lakh water meters on the basis of a single tender.Finding prima facie evidences, the Anti Corruption Branch has found involvement of DJB board members, engineers, contractors and consultants in the scam.However in the case of Bhagirathi Plant, a petition had already been filed in Delhi High Court with a prayer to register an FIR in the alleged scam.
