Home Minister P Chidambaram on Monday met Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the wake of the controversy over a finance ministry note on allocation of 2G spectrum. Reports say that he has offered to resign.Chidambaram's meeting came ahead of the expected meeting of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee with Gandhi on the issue. Chidambaram has come under sustained attack from the opposition over his role in the 2G spectrum allocation after the Finance Ministry note came in the public domain following a right to information query.   The Congress has defended Chidambaram following demands for his resignation by the opposition.Chidambaram's meeting with Gandhi came within hours of Mukherjee's return to the country from his visit to the US.Mukherjee had on Sunday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New York in the wake of the controversy created by his ministry's note. The note to the PMO says that the airwaves could have auctioned in 2008 if Chidambaram, who was then the Finance Minister, had "stuck to his stand".
