27 quintals charas seized; four arrested
The persons, identified as Satyadeo Rai, Amit Tiwari, Pankaj Singh and Ajay Dixit, were arrested this afternoon.
Police arrested four persons and seized more than 27 quintals contraband worth about one crore rupees, in Azamgarh district, officials said here.The persons, identified as Satyadeo Rai, Amit Tiwari, Pankaj Singh and Ajay Dixit, were arrested this afternoon after police recovered 91 sacks of charas, weighing more than 27 quintals, from a truck during checking, they said.The contraband recovered was estimated to be worth about one crore rupees in international market, they said.Police said the sacks containing contraband were hidden under bags containing coconuts.During interrogation the arrested persons said the contraband was smuggled from Chattisgarh, they said.
