At least 26 people went missing after a mini bus with 30 people on board swerved off a mountain road and plunged into the Chenab river at Karara in J&K’s Doda district, about 180 km northeast of Jammu, on Sunday. Two women, a child and the conductor were seriously injured after they fell out of the bus which rolled down 500 feet from the highway into the river.

Police said the chances of the missing passengers surviving were “remote”. “They could have drowned, but no dead body has been recovered as the water current in the river is fast,” a police officer said.
