Slamming the Delhi Government, BJP today said 2009 has been a year "full of peril" for city residents during which the common man has been subjected to "heavy financial burden" by the Congress dispensation.

The Delhi BJP in its executive committee meeting passed a resolution, which also flayed the government for the "deteriorating law and order situation" in the capital.

The meeting was presided over by Delhi BJP chief Om Prakash Kohli. The issue of election of a new president for the Delhi unit also came up for discussion as incumbent Kohli's term is due to expire soon.

"Whatever be the claims of the Government, residents of Delhi largely remained subjected to heavy financial burden by the Government as it increased electricity, water and sewer charges. Fares of public transport facilities like DTC and Metro have also been increased beside the school fees of the children," it said.

The party alleged that the Government has "totally failed" in taking appropriate steps to address the problems of the common people.

"The year also witnessed unprecedented fall in law and order situation of the National Capital Region. Women, senior citizens, specially the working women have largely been subjected to rape and criminal attacks," it said.

The party said the Delhi Government as well as the Union home minister should take steps to improve law and order situation in the city.
