A 20-year-old married woman was confined, along with her husband, and gang-raped for three days by four men in northeast Delhi's Gokulpuri area. Two of the accused have been arrested and the hunt is on to nab two others.
The incident came to light on Wednesday morning when the victim along with her husband broke down in front of an autorickshaw driver and narrated their ordeal who alerted the police. The autorickshaw driver, a member of the Aam Aadmi Party, immediately called his associates and went to the police station with the couple at 11am.
The police recorded the victim's statement and conducted her medical examination at a city hospital which confirmed rape. A case of gang rape has been registered against the four accused. Two of the accused, identified as Ravi and Digambar, both mechanics, were arrested and a hunt is on to nab the two others.
According to the complaint, the couple, who got married a month back, were on their way to Punjab to look for employment. But due to the bad weather, they stopped in Loni in Ghaziabad for the night. At Loni, the couple met four people who led them to Mustafabad in Gokulpuri in the lure of a job and accommodation in the city. Once here, they were confined in a room where the husband was thrashed by the accused who took turns to rape the victim for three days.
The accused threatened the couple with dire consequences if they revealed the incident to anyone and asked them to return to Bihar. It was when the couple was on their way back that they met the autorickshaw driver.
Several protesters gathered at the police station, who damaged police and public vehicles. The police have also roped in a non-government organisation to counsel the victim and her husband.
