Nearly 20 officials of the CBI are facing trial on allegations of graft and disproportionate assets, Rajya Sabha was informed on Thursday.

The data presented by minister of state for personnel, public grievances and pensions V Narayanasamy show 33 officials of the probe agency are facing trial while cases against three are under investigation.

This includes three officials who have retired. Out of those facing trial, 20 officials have charges of demanding and accepting bribe and owning disproportionate assets against them while the rest have allegations of criminal misconduct, forgery, abuse of official position, manipulation of service records, etc.

The minister said 55 officials of the agency are facing departmental inquiries. The CBI maintains a list of officials with “dubious integrity”, he said.
