ASI Naresh Kumar, hailing from Jainpur village in Sonepat district of Haryana, and Constable Ram Mehar, native of Kheri Man Singh village in Karnal district were killed yesterday in an attack by the Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district.

Mehar's body will be kept in the mortuary of the Kalpana Chawala Medical College in Karnal for the night when it arrives later tonight, Sub Divisional Magistrate (Indri), Karnal, Ashwani Malik said.

Cremation of Kumar will take place tomorrow morning at his native village, senior BJP leader Rajiv Jain said.

A pall of gloom descended on the native places of the two soldiers as their families were inconsolable.

Villagers flocked to the houses of bereaved families to console them.

Puran Chand, father of Mehar, said the government should give a free hand to the security forces to deal with Naxalites sternly.

"Enemies hiding within the country have been killing our soilders. The government must tackle this issue with an iron hand," he added.

As many as 25 CRPF personnel were yesterday killed in an attack by the Naxals in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district.
