1991and present economic crisis result of Cong policies: BJP

BJP on Wednesday attacked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA government on issues of corruption and price rise and alleged the present economic crisis as well as the one witnessed in 1991 were a result the policies of Congress.

The political resolution, moved at BJP national executive here its by the party's Deputy Leader in Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad, accused the government of corruption, bad governance and step-brotherly treatment to non-Congress ruled states.

In its economic resolution discussed at the party national executive meeting here today, BJP charged Congress's policies in the last eight years of its rule was responsible for the country's current economic "crisis".

"When the Prime Minister spoke on television and radio recently after 30 months, people had expected that he will provide some relief. But instead he gave a weak justification for what he had done….His speech was a disappointment," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

Recalling details of Manmohan Singh’s speech on September 21, Javadekar said the Prime Minister had mentioned the 1991 economic crisis three times.

"But for 11 years prior to 1991, there had been a Congress government at the Centre (except for a brief period when V P Singh was the PM). So, Congress' misrule for a decade resulted in the 1991 crisis.

"The BJP MP said if the crisis in 2012 reminds Congress of 1991, then the ruling party is responsible for it too as it has been in power since 2004", he said.

Charging that the UPA government is wrongly justifying its stand on FDI in multi-brand retail, BJP rubbished the claim that it is pro-farmer as it will remove middlemen, provide cold storage facilities which will save crops from wastage, and provide better transport.

"Is this rocket science? 100 per cent FDI through the automatic route was allowed in food processing ten years ago but still no cold storage facilities and backend infrastructure has been built.

"While $125 billion investment was expected only $25 billion has been received so far", Javadekar, who had moved the economic resolution, said.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi made a presentation about his state government’s achievements.

The state goes to assembly polls in a couple of months.

Alleging that the Centre is meting out "step-brotherly" treatment to BJP-ruled states, Modi said the recent controversy over rationing of LPG cylinders was a creation of the UPA government.

Sources said Modi maintained lakhs of cylinders would be saved if the Centre gives permission to Gujarat to send its gas pipelines to people’s homes.

He said while the state is all set to implement it, the Centre is "dilly dallying" on it.

Modi said his slogan for the forthcoming Assembly elections will be "sab ke saath, sab ka vikas (with everybody and for everybody’s progress)".

Purshottam Rupala, BJP MP from Gujarat made a presentation on the political situation in the state.

Himachal Pradesh, the other state which goes to polls and where too BJP is trying to retain power, also made a presentation.
