185 soldiers killed in Jammu and Kashmir last 3 years

More than 185 soldiers have been killed in the war against terror in the last three years in Jammu and Kashmir.

Official figures revealed that 2017 saw the highest with 78 soldiers and police officers losing their lives in the line of duty. Forty eight security force personnel and 30 police personnel including special police officers were killed in different terror related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir last year.

Data reveal that around 74 security personnel were killed in 2016 — the year when Hizbul Mujahideen leader Burhan Wani was killed. The numbers include 58 security force men and 16 policemen.

2015 saw relatively less casualties among the security forces. Around 33 security personnel died in the line of duty that year — including 23 army personnel men and 10 policemen.

Around 209 terrorists were killed by the security forces in different anti-terror operations across Kashmir valley last year, which is highest since 2010.

Figures reveal that 270 terrorists were killed by security forces in 2010. The figure came down to 119 in 2011. Around 84 terrorists were killed in 2012, followed by 100 in 2013, 110 in 2014, and 113 in 2015. Despite unrest, security forces killed 165 ultras in 2016.

Last year, around 24 civilians were killed during law and order problems near encounter sites last year.

2017 also saw more than 117 local youth joining terror ranks in Jammu and Kashmir — which is the highest number of terror recruitment in the last seven years.
