COIMBATORE: Nearly 1500 workers of Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhakam on Saturday observed one-day fast, protesting the negligence of both the State and Central governments in solving the Mullaperiyar dam issue.

The workers, including 75 women, squatted in a specially erected pandal near Central Bus stand, under the leadership of District DMDK president, E M Ponnusami.

The protesters accused both the Tamil Nadu and Kerala Governments of enacting a political drama, without attempting to solve the issue.

The Centre could easily have intervened and solved the problem, since the ruling parties in both the States were either a partner in the UPA Government or extending outside support, the workers said.
