Eleven fishermen were rescued by Coast Guard from a flooded ship off the Goa coast, officials said on Sunday.

The maritime rescue coordination committee on Saturday received a distress call from ship FB Nixymol, which was 80 kms offshore north of Goa, a Coast Guard spokesman said. The ship's hull had developed a crack due to which the water had started flooding the vessel.

The distress call was made at around 10 AM on Saturday following which the Coast Guard (CG) was informed. The CG asked the ship to come close to the coast as the off shore patrol vessel ICGS C410 moved for the rescue. The rescue ship reached near distressed vessel at around 1 PM.

Subsequently, and all the fishermen were taken onto the Coast Guard ship. The distressed ship was later toed to the coast by ICGS vessel which reached the harbour at about 5 AM today, the spokesman added.
