K K Sunil, a journalist with a Malayalam newspaper, who launched the 'Kindness to Kashmir' initiative on Facebook, raised Rs 1.5 lakh from Keralites round the globe. The amount was utilised to purchase wheat from Supplyco (Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation), Sunil said.

The aim was to send about 1,000 kg wheat flour to Kashmir. But thanks to the overwhelming response, they were able to send much more, he said.

The consignment, which was handed over today from Supplyco in the presence of Food Minister, Anoop Jacob and Ernakulam District Collector, M G Rajamanickam, would be sent to J&K on October 24 by the Jammu Tavi express.
