A centenarian committed suicide by jumping into the Mandovi river here, police said today.
Shreeram Sagun Naik, who celebrated his 100th birthday two months back, took the extreme step yesterday after being fed up due to his prolonged illness.
Naik was living at Britona, a village across the river with his son and preliminary investigations have ruled out any ill treatment to Naik by his family members, police said.
Local sarpanch Gopal Sawant said that Naik was sick for a long time and had twice earlier tried to end his life
"Both the times villagers had rescued him," he said.         The man's body was fished out by Goa marine police guarding the river front.
