Thanking Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said, the ruler of Oman, Modi said the visit to the Gulf nation was the "most memorable visits" he has undertaken anywhere.

"Thank you Your Majesty Sultan Qaboos for your exceptional warmth, hospitality and friendship, as also your personal attention to details, that made my visit to Oman one of the most memorable visits I have undertaken anywhere," Modi said on Twitter.

"This Oman visit is one I will cherish for a long time to come. This visit has helped in building upon the centuries old ties between our enterprising people, and will impart a substantial momentum to our relations in all spheres, including trade and investment relations," he said.

PM Modi arrived in Oman on a two-day visit on the last leg of his tour of West Asian countries on Sunday. On the first leg of his trip, Modi had travelled to Ramallah, becoming the first Indian prime minister to make an official visit to Palestine.

On Sunday, he met the top leadership of Oman and also addressed a 'Mega Event' of the Indian community.

More than 9 million Indians work and live in the Gulf region. In Oman, they constitute the largest expatriate community.

On the last day of his tour, he visited Shiv Temple and Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat, besides meeting executives of top Omani companies.
