Shocking Hinduphobia on display.
As PM Modi speaks about Hinduphobia and cows, NPR producer mocks Hindus and calls them ‘piss drinking’
On Wednesday, Twitter users lashed out at NPR producer based in Delhi whose disparaging tweets about Hinduism rubbed people the wrong way. Her statements came on a day when PM Modi spoke about a tendency amongst a certain commentariat to mock Hindus for their reverence for the cow as a mother figure.
She had tweeted: “If Indians give up on Hinduism, they will also be solving most of their problems. What will all the piss drinking and dung worshipping.”
She later apologised and wrote: “I wholeheartedly apologize for my tweet earlier. It was ill considered & unacceptable. I deleted it. I didn't mean to disparage Hinduism or hurt anyone's feelings. It doesn't reflect my beliefs and principles. Please accept my sincere regret. I'll be off Twitter for a while.”
Her tweet led to suggestions whether NPR – a privately and publicly funded non-profit media organisation based in Washington DC – could be trusted to cover news in an unbiased manner given such virulent views of its employees.
Of course, given the coverage of recent events in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam, one isn’t particularly surprised by such bigoted views on one of the oldest faiths and civilisations.
1. What she said
I wholeheartedly apologize for my tweet earlier. It was ill considered & unacceptable. I deleted it. I didn't mean to disparage Hinduism or hurt anyone's feelings. It doesn't reflect my beliefs and principles. Please accept my sincere regret. I'll be off Twitter for a while.

I have taken the tweet down so that I am not misrepresented.

Come on..Why this cowardly apology? As a true liberal you should have stood by your tweet and said that you reserve the right to criticize and disparage all faiths equally. A true liberal would do that. Unless you are just a bigot masquerading as a liberal. https://t.co/JcWqlHbuHx

You can read that tweet a 100 times. Nothing, Absolutely Nothing justifies it.

I'm a Muslim but even I can't forgive you for what you said, I doubt Hindus would or even should.
If @NPR doesn't fire her like they had done here https://t.co/j3dXcf0brK it will be proven, again, that Hinduphobia is an acceptable trait for them, which by default is for every left-leaning outfit. https://t.co/Adq31m0qty

Older tweets - this isn't her first tweet on the subject where her choice of words are quite reminiscent of the utterances of Pak PM Imran Khan
So a normal conflict collateral damage of Pandits is Hindu-muslim but this is not. Have some shame, with your double standards.

2. PM on Hinduphobia
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that it is unfortunate that some people feel that the country will get back to 16th century no sooner they hear the word "OM" and "cow".
He was speaking at the inauguration of 'Swachhta Hi Seva' Programme 2019, National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), and National Artificial Insemination Programme at Mathura on Wednesday.
3. 'Unfortunate that people
"It is unfortunate for the country that for some their hair will raise as soon as they hear words like "Om" and "Cow". They think that the country will now get back to the 16th century. Such a knowledge! ...those who are bent upon destroying the nation have left no stone unturned," said Modi.
"In the last 100 days, we have done unprecedented job. I believe that we will continue to get your support for the development of the nation," he said.
He said now the whole world was searching for a role model for environmental conservation and for saving trees and plants but India has Lord Krishna as "inspiration," he added.
