Why is she screaming at her own constituents?
Mimi Chakraborty, TMC’s candidate from Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency just can’t stay out of the news.
Mimi is one of the top actresses in the Bengali film industry and is adored by all, across age groups for her acting skills.
On a day that a picture of her wearing gloves had gone viral, another video shows Mimi Chakraborty fuming while speaking on stage.
It appears to be a weird campaigning tactic. An angry Mimi Chakroborty says on stage: "I am here only because of you. I have no other reason to be here. I want to work for you. I am here to work for you, I have no other reason to be here. Everyone should get it into their heads. Why have I come here after leaving everything?"
It's an odd tactic but who knows what works.

1. Who is Mimi?

Mimi Chakraborty, shot into fame with TV serial Ganer Oparey, where she as Pupe won hearts of crores of Bengalis. With the initial script written by legendary Rituparno Ghosh, Ganer Oparey a TV showed conceptualised to pay tribute to Tagore was a runaway hit. While Mimi played a demure Pupe in Ganer Oparey, she refused to get stereotyped and later showed her acting chops in different types of roles in the big screen.
2. From Jadavpur with gloves

However, Mimi faced lot of trolling once her name was announced over pictures from her movies. While most politicians cutting across parties supported Mimi and Nusrat (actress nominated by TMC) in that issue, Mimi's latest picture has faced flak from other politicians.
She has landed into controversy over a picture of her, which has gone viral on social media. In the picture she can be seen wearing gloves while shaking hands with commoners. BJP alleges that it is an insult to voters. According to Zee News inputs, Mimi's team claim she has suffered nail scratches & burns over the last few days of the campaign as a result of which she is wearing the gloves.
3. Originally from Jalpaiguri

Her first big hit was the tragic Bojhe na se bojhe na. With catchy songs and a really tragic ending, the movie caught the imagination of the masses and Mimi suddenly became an A-lister. From then there has been no looking back, with Mimi giving several memorable performances in movies like Proloy, Golpo Holeo Sattie, Posto, Sudhu Tomari Janyo, Dhananjoy.
Although Mimi will be contesting from Jadavpur, she is originally from Jalpaiguri and her Kolkata connection started from her college days, when she did her graduation from Ashtosh college
4. Tricky seat

Jadavpur is a tricky Lok Sabha seat for TMC. It has now changed candidate in this constituency for the third consecutive time. After singer Kabir Suman and academic Sugato Basu, now it's the time for Mimi Chakraborty. Jadavpur has a mix of urban and semi-urban area and significantly, the Left is a major contender in this seat. BJP's presence till last election has been marginal and fielding of Mimi is a way to attract youth vote towards TMC.
The likes of local senior TMC leaders like Arup Biswas has to do the heavy lifting if Mimi has to win from Jadavpur. Jadavpur assembly seat was reclaimed by CPM from TMC in 2016 polls. A strong left candidate will make Jadavpur an extremely close fight.
Trivia: Mamata Banerjee won her first Lok Sabha election from Jadavpur, defeating heavyweight CPI(M) candidate Somnath Chatterjee in 1984.
