Indian Army officer Major Nisheet Dogra passed away after being trapped under nearly six feet of snow in north Sikkim.
According to sources, Nisheet Dogra, who was commanding an independent tank squadron, was hit by an avalanche on Tibetan plateau, North Sikkim. He has gone missing after a heavy snowfall. His body was found dead under five-six under the snow.
"After an intense search, at about 10 pm, the search party located Maj Nisheet Dogra who was trapped under five to six feet of snow. The officer was given immediate medical aid. However, around midnight, the brave heart lost the battle of life and attained martyrdom in the line of duty," read an official statement on Sunday.

The mortal remains of the officer were flown to Bengdubi from where it was taken to his native place. The ceremetion process took place today.
His father, Umesh Chander took Twitter to express his grief and asked government to improve the conditions over there.

According to the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority, the state receives heavy snowfall in the higher altitude regions, all throughout the year, especially during the winter months from January to March. The snow line ranges from 20,000 feet in the north to 16,000 feet in the south and the region has reported frequent avalanche incidents.

"My son Major Nisheet Dogra, of 7 Cavalry died today at China border, Sikkim Jongri. There was no electricity for over a week. No generator working. Please improve conditions there", wrote Nisheet Dogra's father on Twitter.

Army Chief Bipin Rawat was present for the cremation ceremony.
