From tourist picks like Manali and Gulmarg to the holy shrine of Badrinath, hill stations witnessed the onset of snowfall season in last few weeks.

The mercury levels will drop even further in the next few days with the ongoing cold wave throughout North India. On Sunday, New Delhi recorded its coldest November morning in 17 years with the minimum temperature dropping down to 6.9 degree Celsius. The bitter cold in the plains has a lot to do with the snowfall in the hills. As cold winds blow from the snowy western Himalayas, the mercury dips across the region.

As much as it makes us shiver, the snowfall looks breathtaking as well. From the tourist favourites like Manali and Gulmarg to the holy shrine of Badrinath, different places across the hilly states witnessed the onset of the snowfall season in the last few weeks.

Snowfall in the high reaches of Jammu & Kashmir, accompanied with rains led to shooting stones on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, bringing the vehicles to a halt. The IMD reported that the spell is going to continue with a good amount of snow and rainfall in the region.

The holy shrine of Badrinath witnessed heavy snowfall last week and the streets were covered with the white sheet of snow. Frequented by pilgrims during their travels across the Chardham, the portals of the holy shrine were closed for the winters on November 19.

The meteorological department of Himachal Pradesh has issued a yellow warning for seven districts including Kullu, with heavy rainfall and snow expected in isolated places. The temperatures in the state remained two to three-degree Celsius below normal.

Despite the cold, tourists were seen enjoying the snowfall in Sonmarg in Jammu and Kashmir. Many people from the plains flock to the hill stations in the northern states during the winters, especially near Christmas, to enjoy the breathtaking view and experience these snowfalls.

The snowfalls are a boon for the tourism industry in hill stations like Manali in Himachal Pradesh. Though the pandemic situation will act as a constraint for all those who want to visit popular destinations to enjoy the snow this winter.
